Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals: FAQs

How to find the best Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals

Not every Black Friday Nintendo Switch deal is going to be perfect for everyone. In fact, one player’s dream bundle would be a last resort for another. That means it’s important to head into the sale knowing what you want, but with the flexibility to make sure you still get great value.

However, before we dive into what makes a good bundle, and how you can make sure you’re getting the best price possible, it’s worth noting that you might have to turn up a little early to get the best Nintendo Switch Black Friday deals.

Last year we saw the season’s only bundle (in the US) run out of stock before the big day had even rolled around. A Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundle featuring a Neon Red & Blue console, the game itself, and three months of Nintendo Switch Online sold out within minutes at $299, having made its way to the shelves during Thanksgiving week.

That means you’ll need to move fast to pounce on any headline offers, especially if they’re landing before the main event. With that said, we are expecting more Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals on consoles themselves this year, so there should be a little more room to snag the perfect offer here.

If you already know which game you’re going to be diving into first, it makes sense to look for that title bundled in with your console. However, it’s worth noting the release date of your day one purchase, as there is a sweet spot in bundle inclusion – in both the US and UK. Generally we see the latest and greatest titles included in the highest value bundles; games that wouldn’t normally see discounts by themselves just yet but are still around $10 / £10 off when bought with a console.

These are rare, but often the best Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals around. If, however, you’re after something from the last couple of years, things could go either way. Retailers may include older games for free in their Black Friday bundles, as these titles will likely be heavily discounted by themselves anyway. However, if you are still paying for the game itself within that package price it’s essential that you double check you can’t pick both items up for less.

We often see retailers tripping over each other a little here – sometimes even the same retailer will offer a lower price for a game than it is currently being sold at with a bundle. You’ll likely still be able to find Nintendo Switch stock at $299 / £259 (though straight discounts are more of a possibility than ever this year), so make sure you really are getting the best value possible by shopping around a little before heading to checkout.

Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals: what to expect

Nintendo Switch

2021 is going to be an interesting year for Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals. With three models on the market by the time November 26 rolls around, all of different ages, discounts may not be as uniform as they have been in previous offers.

Last year, for example, there was only one Nintendo Switch bundle doing the rounds throughout the sale event. You could pick up a console, a copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and a three-month Nintendo Switch Online subscription for $299.99 last year. That’s the MSRP of the console itself, a price that remains the best we’ve seen in a long time.

With more stock on the shelves and an OLED model competing at a similar price point, it’s likely we’ll see far more bundles in 2021. Games like The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury have topped the charts in 2021 and are likely contenders for this year’s Black Friday Nintendo Switch bundles. However, older titles like Breath of the Wild and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate still remain popular whenever they hit their own discounts as well.

In the UK, however, Currys has already been leading the way with some excellent bundles, regularly offering half-priced games throughout 2021.

Will there be Black Friday Nintendo Switch OLED deals?

Nintendo Switch OLED

The Nintendo Switch OLED is landed on the shelves just one month before Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals kick off. We’re already seeing a few stock shortages in the US, though, which means we don’t expect too many savings to be available later this year. Considering the shortages in the US, then, we also don’t foresee any bundle offers being available – though if we do you’ll certainly need to race to checkout.

2021’s Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals will be more of a stock grab than a savings search, with several retailers in the US likely to hold onto their units for November restocks. While the UK is seeing far more availability, with the Nintendo Switch OLED readily available across a number of stores, we don’t expect any further savings on the cost of the console. We’d recommend keeping an eye out for rare bundles here, though.

What to expect from Black Friday Nintendo Switch Lite deals

nintendo switch lite black friday deals

Amazon Prime Day also gave us an insight into how Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals may play out in the UK. The Nintendo Switch Lite itself was dropped to £179, a £20 discount that we’ve seen a few times throughout the year and is likely to return in November.

In fact, the Nintendo Switch Lite has been seeing some significant discounts and bundles in sales events on both sides of the pond. Prime Day also introduced a Switch Lite bundle at Amazon that included a free 128GB memory card on selected colors.

We may see more direct discounts on that $199 / £199 Nintendo Switch Lite price tag this November, then, so if you’re looking to spend as little as possible, handheld-only is likely to be the way forwards.

Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals: which accessories will be on sale?

Pro controller

We’ll also be seeing all the regular savings on the best Nintendo Switch accessories, however controllers are likely to see the biggest savings in this year’s Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals.

Official Nintendo items like the Pro Controller and Joy-Con have been stuck at the same sales prices throughout the year. These devices rarely drop down to a new price tier, so we can expect the same $59.99 price tag on the Pro Controller at Amazon and a $69 cost for Joy-Con at Walmart. These are tried and tested offers that return sale after sale, so we would be surprised if prices dropped further in 2021.

However, third party controllers like those on offer from PowerA and PDP often come in significantly cheaper and older releases can plummet in price during larger sale events. PDP’s wired gamepads will be available for well under $20 this year, considering we’ve seen $17.99 sale prices popping up throughout the course of 2021. However, the brand’s wireless options are a little more interesting.

Released just before last year’s Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals, these Faceoff Wireless controllers haven’t wobbled away from their $49.99 MSRP since launch. With a year on the books, though, it looks likely that we’ll see some of their first major discounts this November.

By contrast, the PowerA Enhanced Wireless controller launched during a similar window and at a similar price, yet has already seen discounts dropping it all the way down to $29 over Black Friday last year. That’s a record low price that hasn’t been beaten yet but may return in 2021, especially if PDP doesn’t offer its own discounts.

Which Nintendo Switch games will be on sale for Black Friday?

Skyward Sword HD

Nintendo Switch game sales rarely hit the biggest titles on Nintendo’s shelves. In fact, the only time we would expect to see significant discounts on the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be during Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals.

You’ll often find $10 / £10 off these titles throughout the year, but November is the time for real steals. In the past we’ve seen first party titles take an extra $5 off, dropping down to $44.99 rather than the usual $49.99 discounted rate. However, those kinds of prices have been popping up more and more in recent weeks, which means we may see even bigger discounts on these blockbuster games in 2021.

Titles like Paper Mario: The Origami King, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Super Mario Odyssey have all fallen to between $30 and $35 so far this year. That bodes extremely well for Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals on older titles.

But what about the new games? Monster Hunter Rise, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and New Pokemon Snap are the go-to titles for headline deals this year. So far, we’ve seen a few $10 discounts on these games here and there, so it’s reasonable to assume they will follow the same pattern as the titles before them, dropping an additional $5 off the price this November to sit at $44.99.

Will Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals include bundles?

Some of the best Black Friday Nintendo Switch deals of years gone by have come in the form of bundles. These packages offer up an extra game or accessory at a discounted rate when you pick up your console, but over the November sale you can often find these extras packed in for free.

Last year’s offers fell a little short here. Stock was dramatically reduced and demand was soaring, so the one bundle that we did see in the US ($299 for a console, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership) ran out of stock before the sale actually began.

We are hopeful for brighter things in 2021. Considering the expansion of the Nintendo Switch range, and the fact that stock issues on the standard model have considerably calmed over the course of the year, we may well see more bundles on the shelves this November.

Not only are there more consoles to go around, but retailers will be keen to make the standard £299 / $259 device more appealing in the face of its OLED sibling this year.
