Bugsnax Bugapedia

To get a complete Bugsnax Bugapedia you’ll need to hunt down and catch all of the different creatures at least once, and as there’s 100 Bugsnax in total it helps greatly to have a full listing of them. We’ve divided this guide into the various areas of the island to help you keep track of things, and for each snack we have advice on what time they’ll appear and the best technique for capturing them. These locations are presented in the same order they appear within the Bugsnax Bugapedia, and although this isn’t strictly chronological with your progress through the story it’s close enough. Read on to discover tips, learn what tools are required, and whether catching the particular Bugsnax is part of a quest.

In some cases, your first trip to an area will deliberately be sparse in order to stop you from getting overwhelmed, so you may need to check back later to fully catch ‘em all. Also, you may encounter certain Bugsnax in the wild that, due to lack of equipment, you can’t catch yet. It can be frustrating, but all of the equipment comes readily available during the story, so don’t sweat it.

One last tip; every area has a certain type of Snakpod. In most areas, these are the last Bugsnax in the Bugapedia. If they aren’t, that means there’s a boss battle Bugsnax only available as part of a character sidequest.

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Garden Grove

Garden Grove is actually the second area you visit, but is listed first in the game. You won’t find much difficulty on any of the Bugsnax here, though one or two can be tricky to figure out, and it won’t be fully populated until you have all the gear in the second half of the game. Don’t try and fill the Bugapedia up before leaving, half of them won’t be there on your first trip.

Flavor Falls is the first area that you arrive in, and just like Garden Grove, it will not be fully populated during your first time there. Some good advice for the game, but especially in the early areas, is to complete the quests first, then return later to sweep the rest up. This is also the first area with a boss Bugsnax, and has some hidden areas to look for.

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Sandpede

Time Of Day: All

Time Of Day: Rain

Part Of A Quest?: No

How To Catch: Only available during rain in the hidden cave accessed by crawling under the vines. It’s the cave with the statue you find during Chadlo’s Throw Down quest. They hop everywhere, but in a small area, so it’s more luck than skill.

Mama Mewon

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Mama Mewon

Time Of Day: Quest only

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Throw Down

How To Catch: There are a few steps to this. First, you can only gain access to this area as part of the Throw Down quest. To start, you will need to catch its baby in a Trap, as explained above. However, make sure the Trap is in front of one of the stone statues, so the Mama Mewon will charge and daze itself. From here, use the Grapple Gun to make the sharp rock above fall onto the Mama Mewon. You’ll need to do this three or four times, until the Mama Mewon breaks in half. At this point, Chadlo will start to distract the Mama Mewon, and you need to wait for his distraction to lure it under another rock spike, so you can Grapple Gun it down again. The Mama Mewon will split again, and can now be caught with the net.

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Simmering Springs

Simmering Springs is the first real themed area you arrive at, and the first place the puzzles start getting tricky on your arrival. There is a little bit of skill needed here, but it is a gentle curve as Simmering Springs is all about trying out new methods.

Kweeble

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Kweeble

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: No

How To Catch: Set up a Trap and lure it with Chocolate. Make sure you are not seen, otherwise it will run and hide in a bush. If it does hide, lure it out with more chocolate, and stay hidden.

Crapple

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Pen Pineapple

How To Catch: You will only be able to see its spines as it buries its body underground. Hit these spines with Chocolate or Peanut Butter (although you won’t have Peanut Butter when you first get to Simmering Sands) so that a Crabble attacks it, drawing it out. From here, you should be able to grab it in the Trap while it is above the sand.

Orange Peelbug

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Orange Peelbug

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: No

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Razzby

How To Catch: Set up a catch and wait. It’s as easy to catch as Strabby.

Green Grapeskeeto

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Green Grapeskeeto

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Green Day

How To Catch: Hit a nearby Bugsnax with Chocolate to lure the Green Grapeskeeto down. From here, it will swoop down and eat the Chocolate, making it bloated and easy to Trap.

Snaquiri

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Snakquiri

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Undergrowth

How To Catch: They need to be caught in a Trap while in midair. The easiest way is to combine the Trap and the Launcher, but you can also catch the rockpool Snaquiri fairly easily by setting the Trap in the pool, waiting for the Snaquiri to land on top, then quickly slamming the Trap shut.

Tropicabug

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Tropicabug

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: No

How To Catch: Set up a Trap and wait. It will flee if it sees you, so make sure to keep a good enough distance.

Baja Tacroach

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Baja Tacroach

Time Of Day: 6 pm – 4 am

Part Of A Quest?: No

How To Catch: This version of the Tacroach only comes out at night, and is hidden in the inner of the stone circle area the Lovely Sweetifly lands on the outside of. It’s to the far left of the beach, slightly in from the wooden steps. Catching it is easier than finding it though: just set a Trap and wait. If it sees you, it will stop, so stay far enough back and lure it with Cheese or Hot Sauce.

Waffstackarak

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Waffstackarak

Time Of Day: 4 am – 11 am

Part Of A Quest?: No

How To Catch: One of the more complicated catches of the game, here. Firstly, it only appears in the morning, but even then, it won’t appear until you use the triangle near where Wiggle stands to summon them. Then, they cause a tornado anytime you or another Bugsnak gets near them, so you need to set up a very low Trip Wire along their path – move off the beach to the area with trees – to stun them long enough to scoop them up.

Grumpy Snakpod

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Grumpy Snakpod

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – The Big Scoop 2

How To Catch: These are probably the most hidden of the Snakpods. Find them in the little rockpools, inside Scout’s training area, or on the outside of the rock columns.

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Boiling Bay

Boiling Bay is just off Simmering Sands, but you won’t be able to access it just yet. Once you get there, you will need to be prepared to play with the elements, as you’re just as likely to catch fire as you are to freeze in the Boiling Bay. It’s also home to the most impressive – and perhaps most frustrating – boss battle.

Green Crapple

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Green Crapple

Time Of Day: All

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Coconauts (You will only need the Greater or Lesser, not both)

How To Catch: There are a few steps to this. First, you need to get the Coconut out of the palm tree by hitting the base with the Grapple Gun. Next, use the Launcher to throw the Coconut at the anchor on the beach, splitting it. Then, lure the Lesser Cocomin to the Green Crapple, and scoop it with the net once it is dazed.

Lesser Cocomite

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Coconauts (You will only need the Greater or Lesser, not both)

How To Catch: Same as above. There are a few steps to this.

Noodler

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Noodler

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Use Your Noodle

How To Catch: Lure it out of the lava cave and to the sea using Scout covered in Hot Sauce. There are extra Hot Sauce pods by the cave exit, and you may need to stock up. Try and avoid the Paletoss’, and don’t get too close to the Noodler or it will become distracted and will charge you instead.

Paletoss

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Paletoss

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: Dead Man’s Chest

How To Catch: Hit the Paletoss Grande with Hot Sauce so the Noodler attacks and melts it. To get this version of the Paletoss, you will need to wait until the Grande splits in two, then lure the Noodler back again to remelt it. Once it is melted (but has stopped burning), sneak up behind it and grab it with the net.

Paletoss Grande

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: No

How To Catch: Hit the Paletoss Grande with Hot Sauce so the Noodler attacks and melts it. Once it is melted (but has stopped burning), sneak up behind it and grab it with the net. Beware that you only have a short space of time before the Paletoss Grande splits and becomes a Paletoss.

Red Banopper

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Red Banopper

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Get Hoppy

How To Catch: Set up a Trip Wire between the treetops it jumps between. If you go to the furthest trees away from the beach, there is a Red Banopper jumping between two trees and another two trees perpendicular, which can be used for the Trip Wire. It will take a little bit of time to adjust your aim up and down if you don’t catch it the first time.

Flamin’ Cheepoof

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Flamin' Cheepoof

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: No

How To Catch: Set up a Launcher in the cave and wait for a Paletoss to wander over it. Quickly aim at the Cheepoof to hit the Cheepoof with the Paletoss, knocking it out of the sky and extinguishing it.

Sherbie

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Sherbie

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Undergrowth

How To Catch: There might be a more elegant way, but this one works. Sherbie is tucked away at the far end of Boiling Bay, beyond the shipwreck. It is frozen, and underground, so can be hard to catch. If you track it, you will see that it rises up every time it hits the black rocks, which is your chance to strike. You need to wait on the opposite side of the lava river, then run across the lava river – setting yourself alight in the process – and running into Sherbie. This will melt it, and give you time to catch it once you and it have stopped burning.

Fruity Snakpod

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Fruity Snakpod

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: No

How To Catch: Walk up to it on a tree and grab it.

Minimaki

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Minimaki

Time Of Day: Quest only

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Dance With The Dragon

How To Catch: The Megamaki and several Minimaki will swim around the Bay. You need to set up Trip Wires across the poles to trip the Makis, then scoop up as many Minimaki as you can. You cannot catch the Megamaki until all of the Minimaki have been scooped up. After the second successful trip, the Makis will stop swimming in a straight line and will instead fly in a swoop, so the Trip Wire is harder to aim. They also shoot roe at the poles, breaking them, so don’t stand too close once you’ve set them up.

Megamaki

Time Of Day: Quest only

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Dance With The Dragon

How To Catch: The Megamaki and several Minimaki will swim around the Bay. You need to set up Trip Wires across the poles to trip the Makis, then scoop up as many Minimaki as you can. They also shoot roe at the poles, breaking them, so don’t stand too close once you’ve set them up.

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Scorched Gorge

Scorched Gorge has a lot of Bugsnax which appear in other forms elsewhere, which is handy when it comes to figuring out how to catch them. You’ll likely catch the Scorched Gorge ones first, since you arrive here fairly early in the game, but it is a very helpful area nonetheless.

BBQ Bunger

Bugsnax Bugapedia: BBQ Bunger

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: No

How To Catch: Lure the BBQ Bunger into running with Ketchup, then when it bounces off a barrier, scoop it up. You can also make it chase you rather than use any sauce.

Sweet Fryder

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Sweet Fryder

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: Yes – Fry With Me

How To Catch: Use Ketchup to lure it off the ledge and into a Trap below. Beware that any nearby Spuddys will charge the Traps, so you might want to catch them first. Also, sometimes the Sweet Fryder will not follow a trail of Ketchup . If this happens, hit the nearby Cheepoof/White Cheepoof with the Ketchup and the Sweet Fryder will scurry down in a vain attempt to catch the Cheepoof.

Time Of Day: All

Part Of A Quest?: No

How To Catch: Walk up to it on the wall and grab it.

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Sizzlin’ Sands

Much like Boiling Bay, Sizzlin’ Sands is only accessible through another area – this time Scorched Gorge. Again, you will be able to see the entrance (it’s across Cromdo’s ‘bridge’), but won’t be able to get there until later in the game. When you do, you’ll find it one of the most complex areas, made more difficult by the fact lots of Bugsnax are on fire. Once you figure out its mysteries though, it’s not too bad.

Tacroach

Bugsnax Bugapedia: Tacroach

Time Of Day: All

The Sodie D will squirt it, extinguishing the fire. A bomb timer will start, and at the end the Preying Picantis will break into a Tacroach and Incherito. Incheritos can be found in the wild, but Tacroaches can not. Once it is separate, set a Trap and wait. An alternative extinguishing option is to lure it to a Flapjackarack during the sandstorm.
