A secret cabal of the world’s brightest minds will make their debut in January 12’s X-Men Legends #10 (opens in new tab) – but you could say they’re quite sinister.

Deadpool co-creator Fabian Nicieza returns to the X-Men franchise for a new story that introduces a group of Marvel U thinkers called The Eighth Circle. It includes Professor X, Beast, Moira MacTaggert, Magneto, and Amanda Mueller… but also the always-conniving Mister Sinister.

“It’s always fun to write Mr. Sinister, and the opportunity to broaden a storyline that never got full traction back in the day was cool,” says Nicieza in the announcement.

Nicieza is referring to Mueller – AKA The Black Womb – whom he introduced in his run on a Gambit series in the early ’00s. This Eighth Circle was never introduced then, but they are now – and are what Marvel describes as a mutant version of the Illuminati.

Nicieza is working on this one-off issue with Dan Jurgens, a veteran DC writer/artist who is making his X-Men debut with X-Men Legends #10. Check out this preview of the issue:

Jurgens says when he was asked to draw the issue, he “couldn’t possibly say no.”

“After all, it’s one of the few top drawer properties that I really haven’t worked on,” he says. “The fact that it was written by my longtime pal Fabian Nicieza cemented the deal. We’ve always talked about working together but weren’t able to make it happen—until now!”

X-Men Legends #10 goes on sale on January 12.
