Tom Brady’s Buccaneers continue to vindicate top spot on the Madden 22 best teams list, having amassed a real-life record of 10-3 as of mid-December. Second-placed Kansas City haven’t fared quite so well, but offensive heavyweights such as Pat Mahomes and Travis Kelce ensure they remain a force in Madden 22. Below we profile the seven highest-ranked teams in the game, while you can scroll to the foot of this Madden 22 best teams list to see the overall rating for every roster.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 92
The reigning Super Bowl champs stormed into the new season boasting four players rated 90 or above. Quarterback and Madden 22 cover star Tom Brady inevitably tops the list with an overall of 97, followed by Lavonte David (MLB, 93), Mike Evans (WR, 91) and Ali Marpet (LG, 90). New running back addition Giovani Bernard scores a rating of 77, which only ranks him third on the team behind Ronald Jones II (81) and Leonard Fournette (78). Even more modest is the rating awarded to the Bucs’ first-round draft selection Joe Tryon, who scores a meagre 69.
Kansas City Chiefs – 90
The defeated Super Bowl finalists remain in imperious form where Madden 22 is concerned. One year removed from picking up the first rings of their career, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce both snag the maximum overall rating possible of 99. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill runs them close on 98, with devastating assets of 99 speed, 99 acceleration and 98 agility – good luck handling that offence in online matches. Also hammering down the 90+ barrier are Tryann Mathieu (SS, 95) and Chris Jones (LE, 90). The Chiefs didn’t have a draft pick until late in the second round, where linebacker Nick Bolton picks up an OVR of 70.
Green Bay Packers – 89
Will he? Won’t he? After a protracted and dramatic offseason star signal caller Aaron Rodgers lined up in a Packers uniform after all, although his overall rating of 96 falls short of Green Bay’s highest rated Madden 22 player. Rodgers’ favourite target, wide receiver Davante Adams, instead earns that honour with an OVR of 99. Left tackle David Bakhtiari matches the man he’s tasked with protecting on 96, while Jaire Alexander (CB, 95) and Aaron Jones (HB, 91) are also set for mammoth campaigns. Backing up Alexander is first-round pick Eric Stokes, who’s rated 71 ahead of his rookie season.
Baltimore Ravens – 88
Fleet-footed quarterback – and Madden 21 cover star – Lamar Jackson is the Ravens’ talisman these days, but like Rodgers he falls short of being the top-rated player on an almightily consistent squad. Jackson kicks off this year’s game with a 91 OVR, enough for third place on the Baltimore roster. Above him are sixth-year right tackle Ronnie Stanley (93) and ball-hawking cornerback Marlon Humphrey (92). The Maryland maulers have an impressive 16 players rated 80 or over, including Calais Campbell (RE, 90), Mark Andrews (TE, 88), Marcus Peters (CB, 88) and the forever reliable Justin Tucker (K, 87).
Cleveland Browns – 87
The Ravens’ main rivals fall a point short in the battle for AFC North superiority, at least where EA Tiburon’s ratings experts are concerned. They (quite rightly) rate dominant defensive end Myles Garrett as the Browns’ best player, with an overall of 98. Only one other Brown scores 90+: running back Nick Chubb, on 96, although a trio of players rest agonisingly on 89s: right guard Wyatt Teller, cornerback Denzel Ward, and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Beloved signal caller Baker Mayfield has to make due with an 84 OVR, but there’s good news at the strong safety position. Offseason pick-up Josh Johnson III led the Rams in tackles last season, and is rewarded with a score of 86.
Buffalo Bills – 86
A down year for the New England Patriots saw Buffalo take over the AFC East last time out – and in a fashion which suggested that the Pats, Dolphins and Jets may be looking up with envy for seasons to come. Josh Allen’s impeccable year behind centre is rewarded with an 88 overall score, level with free safety Micah Hyde – but a few points short of Stefon Diggs (WR, 97) and Tre’Davious White (CB, 93). Free agent pick up Emmanuel Sanders (WR, 83) bolsters a receiving corps which also boasts Cole Beasley (WR, 86) and Dawson Knox (TE, 76).
Dallas Cowboys – 86
Controversial. Mick McCarthy’s first year in Dallas was close to an abomination, with the Cowboys finishing 6-10 – although losing QB Dak Prescott to a shattered ankle five games in had a big say in the season going south. Prescott returns with a Madden 22 overall rating of 87, while EA also expects big things from Zack Martin (RG, 98), Amari Cooper (WR, 92), Tyron Smith (LT, 91) and Ezekiel Elliott (HB, 88). First round pick Micah Parsons (ROLB, 75) is also expected to have an immediate impact alongside Jaylon Smith (MLB, 77) and Leighton Vander Esch (LOLB, 80).
