A Wonder Woman game is on the way, with Middle-earth: Shadow of War developer Monolith Productions at the helm.
As is superhero video game tradition, the Wonder Woman announcement teaser is an opaque cinematic which tells us nothing about how the game actually plays, but it’s still some exciting stuff. Monolith’s pedigree would suggest a third-person action game with a likely open-world bend, but the studio’s also worked on first-person shooters like F.E.A.R. and, more pertinently, Gotham City Impostors, so there’s plenty of wiggle room.
The prospect of a Wonder Woman game does get the imagination going. The heroine’s iconic lasso could make for some grappling hook-style movement and attacks, and compared to many other superheroes who’ve already gotten several games, there’s a wealth of untapped potential in her lore. Monolith bumped up (opens in new tab) its hiring push on the heels of Wonder Woman’s reveal, and job listings (opens in new tab) on the studio’s site definitely point toward a third-person action-adventure game, but what kind of action game remains to be seen.
To the surprise of no one, Monolith and Warner Bros. Games didn’t specify platforms or a release date for Wonder Woman. We can reasonably assume that PS5 and Xbox Series X will be included, and PC seems like a shoo-in given Monolith’s history, but we shouldn’t expect to play it for a couple of years at least. Heck, we might not even see it again for a year.
Wonder Woman 3 is trucking along, with Patty Jenkins and Lynda Carter joining the film’s cast.
