It’s easy to wonder if God of War Ragnarok is on PS4, given it’s flagship PS5 status. The Norse/Greek mythical adventure series is being partially sold as a showcase for what the PS5 is capable of, but considering the last one could be played on the PlayStation 4, it’s not unreasonable to assume that the sequel will also be playable on the same console. Though God of War Ragnarok isn’t out until 2022, we’ve amassed all the details on cross-platform compatibility and availability for PlayStation Studio’s latest epic.
Will God of War Ragnarok be available on PS4?
Yes, at time of writing all indications are that God of War Ragnarok will be playable on PS4, owing to an interview with Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios. When asked broadly about continuity and compatibility between the PS4 and PS5, Hulst made the following comment:
“Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 — for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 — we’ll continue looking at that. And if PS4 owners want to play that game, then they can. If they want to go on and play the PS5 version, that game will be there for them.”
God of War Ragnarok PS4 release date
It’s also fair to wonder about God of War Ragnarok’s PS4 release date, and whether it’ll be the same as the PS5 version. At time of writing we’ve actually not got a firm release date for any version beyond simply being in 2022, but there’s no reason to think that the two versions will be released separately, especially when the current trend is to release PS4 and PS5 versions alongside each other. Of course, we’ll update this when we know more either way.
God of War Ragnarok PS4 and PS5 differences
So far we’ve not heard about any differences between the two versions of God of War Ragnarok in terms of gameplay. Not to say that it won’t happen, only that Sony hasn’t specified if there will or won’t be.
The likelihood is that the major differences between the two versions of Ragnarok will be those that the greater PS5 technology allows for: better graphics, loading times, use of the DualSense controller and so on.
Will God of War Ragnarok be available on PC?
At time of writing there is no indication that God of War Ragnarok will be coming to PC at any point. That’s not to say it’s impossible (PlayStation exclusives like Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn have both made the jump) but it’s definitely unlikely and certainly not likely to be released on the same date as the PS4 and PS5 versions. If we do see it on Steam or the Epic Store, it probably won’t be for at least a year after the PlayStation releases.
