Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War heats up in new issue teaser

Marvel Comics is teaming up with Epic Games again for another adventure set in the world of Epic’s highly popular battle arena game, Fortnite. Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War, a five-issue limited series debuting in June, follows Marvel and Epic’s previous Nexus War collaboration, which added Fortnite themed back-up stories to numerous Marvel Comics titles.

In addition to a series trailer and first issue preview, Marvel has also released cover art for Zero War issues #2-3. Check out the trailer above and the preview and covers below:

In Zero War, Marvel’s heroes and several characters from Fortnite are trapped in a “never-ending war” that can only be stopped by retrieving and utilizing the power of so-called ‘Zero Shards’ of ‘Zero Point Energy.’

What’s extremely interesting about this idea is that it’s not just limited to the Marvel Universe. It’s actually made it into DC continuity as well with the Batman/Fortnite crossover Batman: Zero Point, meaning that thanks to Fortnite and Zero Shards, Marvel and DC are very nearly crossing over together – though we’ll hold our breaths to see if even the power and popularity of Fortnite will ever be enough to see Marvel and DC characters together on the page again.

Perhaps even more interesting is that this new crux of realities is apparently about to be under threat entirely from Marvel’s world-devouring cosmic being Galactus, as shown in a preview of unlettered interior pages from Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War #1, along with a gallery of all the debut issue’s covers, seen here:

The first printings of all five issues of Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War will also include redeemable download codes for Fortnite digital cosmetics that will be free to anyone who buys the comics, which are written by longtime Marvel scribe Christos Gage and Epic Games chief creative officer Donald Mustard, with art from Sergio Dávila and covers from Leinil Francis Yu.

Here’s a list of the cosmetics that will be available:

  • Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War #1 – Outfit
  • Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War #2 – Wrap
  • Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War #3 – Pickaxe
  • Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War #4 – Spray
  • Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War #5 – Loading Screen

Plus any reader that redeems all five codes will receive a bonus outfit.

“At its heart, the series is an adventure story, with characters from both universes coming together to go on a treasure hunt into the deepest, darkest depths of the Marvel Universe,” states Marvel editor Alanna Smith in the announcement. “Donald Mustard and Christos Gage have such a deep love for both Fortnite and Marvel, and Sergio Davíla is turning in some absolutely unreal pages. Having the amazing Leinil Francis Yu on main covers and a killer lineup of Marvel artists on variants has been a real gift as well. This is going to be the ultimate team-up, where the best of both Fortnite and Marvel are represented.”

On sale in July, Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War #2 continues the hunt for the Zero Shard as Spider-Man and his allies are led to the outskirts of Wakanda while Iron Man and The Foundation stumble upon a game-changing revelation.

Then in August, Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War #3 follows Iron Man and The Foundation as they get closer to their goal, as well as Stegrona and his dinosaur hybrids as they search the Savage Land for the Zero Shard.

Marvel has also announced a series of variant covers that will go on sale in May across various titles matching up Marvel and Fornite characters.
